Iowa Living Human Heart Research Program

Welcome!

University of Iowa Researchers are conducting cutting-edge research with living human heart tissue.

By combining living human cardiac tissue with frozen/fixed tissue, cell culture, and animal models, researchers can validate findings, bridge translational gaps, and enhance the overall rigor and impact of cardiovascular research.

Metrics

  • ILHHRP Provides Living Human Cardiac Tissue to over 20 Labs
  • Data generated will be featured in 3 manuscripts and 6-7 grants this year
  • We have access to 12-24 hearts annually

Our Mission

  • Enable transformative advancements in cardiovascular science through the use of living human cardiac tissue
  • Enhance the rigor, impact, and translatability of scientific discoveries
  • Elevate the quality and innovation of manuscripts and grant applications
  • Position the University of Iowa and the Abboud Cardiovascular Research Center as leaders in cardiovascular science
  • Attract and retain top researchers and collaborators Provide innovative training opportunities for the next generation of scientists
  • Support the University of Iowa’s mission to advance cutting-edge research, foster collaboration, and serve the needs of Iowans
